OCTOBER 2004 JOURNAL

As you've all probably noticed, Jo's not too speedy with updating the Journal this month huh!  Between us sennie babies, Little Misty, the red belly baby, two lovebird babies almost ready to leave us, seven little lovebird farts and five linnie babies that are just keeping Jo in stitches laughing at them, then all her Healthy Bird shows, then all those big guys downstairs got all new King cages, moving old cages out,  and we must not forget all the adults need their TLC.  So all in all, has been pretty busy around here.  We'll probably forget half the gossip to tell you, but the month is far from over.

But back to the linnie babies.  There are two green and three cobalts in this clutch.  Jo has them in a large apartment with the three lovebirds their age for now.  You have never in your life seen anything as funny as these three young cobalt linnies running for the food.  They don't run, they hop and skip AND run.  Anything in their way, don't matter they are getting to that drawbridge where the grub is and they hop and skip right on over  anything in their way.  The last couple feedings one of the three cobalts has been napping.  He awakens to see the other two already at the front door, eating away, Holy look out. ...here he comes on the run.  Jo says what makes them so cute at this age, is that they are no bigger than minutes and to see those little minutes move that fast, tripping over their own feet, is just too cute.

Me, my name is Sunny, and I'm nothing short of a big hunk.  That's me getting a  throat massage from Jesse.  Love having my throat rubbed. Having a blast, us guys are, Jo has lots of ropes, toys, perches, our own merry go round from the ceiling and we are just flying all over.  Jo's been breaking it to us gently we all may be having a short wing clipping soon.  Guess she got us a new set of digs as well, all set up for us downstairs so we can be with her and watch cartoons while she is working on her computer.

WE ARE HOME!!  SHOWS ARE OVER!  Man oh Mr. Man is Jo glad!

Homesick was not the word last Sunday in Montreal.  Three long distance trips in one month was just too much for her to be away from us spoiled guys!  She knew we were in the best of hands, but just not the same thing as being here with us herself I guess.    She now is setting up Healthy Bird retailers in Montreal, one in Ottawa, has one in Sherbrooke, Quebec, has one in Nova Scotia, one in Toronto, now she would like to have one in B.C.  In case your interested we have Harrisons products coming in this week, we now have the new Avian Natural Gold pellets by Pretty Bird in stock, (medium and small) we have some nice new parrot seed mixes (for larger birds) and also a new soaked seed mix.  We do have more products coming, one being the new veggie and fruit pellets new out by Zupreem.  Stay tuned to the Healthy Bird website as that is where all these products will be listed.

We should by all means not forget to mention, it was wondering getting to meet a lot of our Healthy Bird clients and buyers of our birds.  We had one couple in particular , make a special trip to come see us.  They wanted to tell us their birds from us had just laid their first egg and were they surprised!  It sure does make all these long distance trips and time away from home, much more rewarding.  It was also very nice getting to meet a lot of breeders from other avairies that we correspond with.

We have friends and relatives in all the places we went, so that also made the trips special, being able to visit and stay with some of these friends and relatives that we do not see that often.  Eating was NOT a problem on these visits!!  Way back last year, a little lady by the name of Pascal was here with her Dad to visit us from Ottawa and bought a little blue linnie she called Azul.  They came to see us at the show and we were invited to their home for supper.  I do have pictures of her with Azul laying in the palm of her hand, now I must find them in my IN basket and post them for you all to see!  Now I have to say this supper was EXCELLENT, but I must also say, we "sort" of did not realize we were invited for supper!  We were staying at friends that just could not see us go without supper after being at the show all day and had our places all set at their supper table.  No body seemed to be sure if we were actually going to be eating supper at John's house or not.  So we ate supper, then left for Pascals, Julie and John's.  Only to get there, pull in the driveway and see him in the kitchen, doing none other than COOKING  SUPPER!  Oh my God!  I warned my husband NOT to say a word!  Julie had been away and supper was delayed by two hours, which I must say suited us just fine!  Supper was EXCELLENT!  Now we are not sure if Pascal or John read this Journal or not, but if they do, this is where they will find out we had TWO suppers that night!  THANKS John and Julie!!

Dear young Jesse is glad to see us home as well. He is not used to his Mere Mere being away that long and he just loves the bigger babies as well.  We should have lots of pictures after this weekend of him with them.

Jo and Zita's babies should be leaving next week.  The little dark fellow is going to live in Ontario and his new Mom is waiting ever so patiently for him.  She has toys, happy huts, food, sandy perch all ordered to send with him.  Then we also have the little whiteface creamino lady going to her new home next week.  Jo just hung up the phone from her new Mom calling to see how she is.  She is also going to be the new Mom of Sunny, our first born senegal baby when he's ready a couple weeks from now to go home.  To boot, she already has 4 of our lovebird babies and a linnie baby!  It's called "Bird Addiction Sickness" and when it hits, it hits hard!  Ask most husbands, they know!

And we must not forget the four in the brooder.  They are babies of Jodie and Jesse's.  One is a keeper for sure, Jo just cannot decide which one.  She has two she is trying to choose from.  Another week or so and she'll make up her mind.  They are some kinda cute bouncing around in their brooder.  Today they got their first little sandy perch training stand and I'm sure it'll only be a day or so, before they are perching proud for the first time.

And you thought we were done!  No way, Misty and Noah have just,  as of half an hour ago, hatched their fifth out of five eggs.  And Lucy and Linus also have two babies.  Now you can be sure a lot of lovebirds are going on Winter Break, like it or not!

As you can see us sennies and Misty, the red belly babe are growing up right smartly.  Sunny, well he  figures he always has to be first, Radar the youngest likes nothing better than to be cuddled, Kane the second youngest just wants to be riding around on the shoulder with you, and Gabbie, while not quite so gabbie as she used to be, is quite the character.  They do not by any stretch of the imagination enjoy being cooped up in their homes!  As you can see Jo has the ceiling fan all done up with vet wrap.  They get up there and they get that fan swinging around, put any merry-go-round to shame!  Jo figured Misty was never going to fly, took her forever to extend those wings.  Man oh Man, she has turned out to be the best bird in flight.  She can land with such percision, you'd think she'd been flying for years!

Now back to the linnies.  Jo had quite the laugh at them yesterday.  As long as she has been breeding and handfeeding babies, they never cease to amaze her.  Yesterday she is feeding away and one of the blues is getting really impatient for his turn.  I guess he had figured he had waited long enough and makes the big dive.  Of course Jo was focused on who she was feeding at the time, and never in a million years figured one was going to take a nice long jump and land right smack in the middle of the cup of formula.  Jo looses her grip on the formula, it and Mr. Blue go crashing to the floor.  Mr. Blue had a nice coushy landing as he was  still IN the cup of formula.  WHAT A MESS!!!  First bird to literally take a bath, first in formula, then in a nice warm cloth!!!  Let's just say when these guys want some grub, they ain't fooling around!

So now let's go a step further.  This little fart has a mind of his own, there ain't no doubt.  Last night at 11, Jo is giving a bednight snack.  Out comes running four linnies.  Jo is feeding away and then wonders, Where is Number 5 blue guy?  Now you have to bear in mind that Jo finds it very rare that linnies bath, they normally like to be misted.  Well here is Mr. Blue, right in the water bowl, enjoying a nice bath, dipping in and out and just SOAKED.  Impressed, I don't think so!!!  Jo takes him, gets out the towels and towels him dry.  Bathing is great, but not at bedtime!!

JOJO AND HIS/HER NEW PROUD MOM:  Yep,  It's not longer a "Misty"  and of course you don't think JO put up a fuss over the name change!!
