HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Hit Counter

Hello and Happy Lovey Dovey Valentine's to you all!  Tikki here, the little beautiful double factor violet boy here, Number 1 on the picture side.  I get to go to my new home this weekend and my new Mom is so excited.  So is Jo cause I'm just a spoiled rotten little boy and I'm going to be number 1 head of the house man in my new home!  As you can see we all love hanging on the light fixture, so Jo has it wrapped up so we won't be chewing on it and hurt ourselves.

Right below me you have the silver violet pied whiteface.  She/he, only she/he knows for sure, also has a new home, but were not quite sure when they are going home.  They have to go on the plane so waiting for it to be a little warmer weather for traveling I guess.  Then as you can see us guys just LOVE playing on the merry-go-round.  We get on that fan and boy's can we make her spin!  Oh ya, that's me again standing guard on top of the food container.  I got a hostage inside as you can see.  Seems to be her favorite pastime, going in and helping herself!  Let's see her get out this time!

Then we got lots and lots and lots of linnie babies.  14 I do believe and still more hatching out in that Breeding place.  But I gotta tell you a little story bout one of them.  Jo is so upset.  First time ever she has had a linnie lay SEVEN eggs and had them ALL hatch.  Imagine how excited Jo is.  She has been mothering them like there is no tomorrow, checking on them every hour making sure all is well.  Last week we had Kiki here.  Not sure if you remember her or not, but she is a little one that now belongs to a good friend of Jo's.  Well the parents of Kiki were going south for a week so they left Kiki here.  Jo wanted to leave Kiki in the Resting Room on the table beside Sophie and Soloman.  Never in all her time with us has Jo seen Sophie get so upset.  She wanted NO part of that Kiki bird being beside her cage. She only lasted an hour there and Jo had to move her to the Babies Room as Sophie was down off her home and over at Kiki every time JO would try and turn her back.  Jo's not sure if it was the cage she was not used to seeing sitting there or the actual bird!  So anyways up to the Babies room goes Kiki.  All is well until Thursday Jo is going in as she does about every hour or so to check on the babies in the brooder.  Now Kiki was in her cage, the brooder was completely covered when Jo had left the room an hour before that.  Imagine, just imagine the horror on Jo's face when she walks in the babies room and sees this yellow bird strutting up and down INSIDE the brooder with 6 little tiny small babies!  Jo gets her out of there pronto, puts her back home (after a few choice words) and then proceeds to check all her babies.  They all appeared to be fine, no marks of any sort that Jo could visually see.  Supper time rolls around and then Jo sees that all is not well and one of the babies is favoring one side, wing and leg.  The baby still has foot movement, but is not putting any weight on the leg and is keeping the wing tucked right up.  After consultation with the vet, it is determined Kiki must have picked at her and damaged a nerve.  See the picture here of the baby in the dish.  That's the poor baby, who is eating and pooing just fine.  The vet tells Jo is might take a week or so for the nerve to correct itself and we are sure HOPING it will!  Today she appears to have great foot movement and control, but is not by any means 100% yet, so we are still hoping.  So much for Tula and Grady's perfect clutch of seven!  Now we have Rosey out there on seven boulders, which started hatching yesterday.  I kid you not, this linnie lays boulders!!  Jo of course is hoping for all seven to hatch again but is not holding a lot of hope in this case as feels Rosey had a hard time keeping all these eggs warm and was two days late in hatching out the first one.  But hey these guys are living proof these Healthy Bird products are the greatest and just keep our Moms and Dads (and US) fit as fiddles!

Those big cobalt, slate and sky blue linnie babies here are Opal's and Lucy's.  You ought to see these guys just gobbling back the formula off the spoon.  The little slate that for some reason Jo has dubbed Brewster is just a ham.  He comes running and his face goes right into that formula, ain't no one stopping him!  The other little babies you see here, well they all form part of the seven.  Oh besides we have a couple of Nadine and Nigel's there.  If your looking for a baby linnie, with all the good luck (we have to say that quietly) Jo has been having lately with our hatchings, our waiting list should be done and time to start a new one!

Oh but we also have more big news this week.  Our Sandy perches are coming tomorrow.  That's right, anyone wants one of those wonderful perches, Tiny Rascals is the place to call.  All sizes, shapes, colors and styles coming.  Jo even has a feeding station coming for all us babies to enjoy as we are getting our grub.  We'll get Jo to post some pictures for you here of them.

Now I have to run for now folks as have to help Jo get my Hatch certificate made out to take home with me.

Sandy Perches ARE HERE Folks.  While we do not have them listed on Tiny Rascals Site, please go to www.healthybird.net and you'll find them all.  As you can see Sophie and Soloman and the babies think they are great.  Soloman, well he especially likes the Perch and Play as he is in love with that wooden block!   Sophie, she's just content to try and eat them, which is just what you want to keep the beaks in shape.   Note also how easy it is to add extra toys to the end of this one.   While Sophie and Soloman may have hot pink, we have every color going.  Purple, orange, green, brown, reds, burgundy, blues, sparkle ones, the list goes on and on.   Pictured here as well is a brand new one, just out, called Trim and Play.   This one is not for perching, it is made specially for keeping the beaks groomed.  We only have those in medium as pictured right now.  Also note that  should your fids chew up the manaznita, on the Trim and Play, replacement parts can be purchased.  Jo has to admit, she got mini training stands, looked at them and was very disappointed as it was smaller than she expected.  Then all of a sudden her brain got a twitch, she grabbed one, ran up to the Babies Room and viola, the babies now have perches in the brooders!!  Well now she thinks these little ones are just as wonderful as all the rest.  Perfect, absolutely perfect, for brooders and small birds.  We also have the deluxe stands with a lixit cup on each end for anyone that is looking for the greatest portable perches, especially for travel, they would be ideal.  We'll be posting more pictures in the next couple days here, you can be sure.  Jo has one client that was so excited, he rushed right over with his wife and they bought SIXTEEN!  Now you tell me their birds are not happy campers!   The ones you see Sophie and Soloman perched on here are medium size, which is the largest size we have in stock right now.  As well we have smalls and minis.  We have Trim and Plays, Perch and Plays, the stands, regular sandy perches, forked sandy perches, corner sandy perches.  Prices range anyways from $14.40 to $37.00.  These perches are made from manzanita core with brightly colored sand permanently bonded to it.  They have a lifetime guarantee and are 100% Vet tested and approved.  Very light weight, will not break or crack!  On the Trim and Play next door here, you can see the manzanita core inside with the bonding.  As these are made from natural manzanita every perch has it's own unique shape and twists and bends.  Any questions, don't hesitate, call JO!!

Hi ya all!  Yep I'm back.  Brewster here.  The little slate linnie.  Jo now realizes that she should NOT be calling me Brewster though as I is a little girl.  Oh well she says my new Dad, Aaron will change my name for me. We hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day.  We sure did. A bunch of us from our local bird chat group got together and went out for lunch.  Course we all got left home.  Imagine!  If you are a Mari timer and want to join in our fun, please join us at the Yahoo Group,  Atlantic Canada Bird Lovers.  Tis a wonderful fun fun group and we all have loads of different kinds of  birds we chat about as well as raze and tease each other.  Keeps life fun!

All us linnies are growing up fast and furious.  I think Jo's got 15 or so of us up here now.   I also heard her say that not all of us are reserved this time round, so now your chance if you'd like one of us babies.  Course ya can't have me, I do have a new home and a hubbie coming with me!  There's a little olive linnie upstairs from me, that Jo says is just a going concern.  First out to door for grub and last one back in, as he's not about to miss out on that last drop that might come his way!  He is from the crew of seven of Tula and Grady's.  There are two olives in the clutch.  Then there's a whole whack of cobalts.  Three from Nadine and Nigel this time round.   None more like me yet though, I'm special!~  Rosey and Matt have two new babies. Those two are always full of surprises as they have given us creaminos, cobalt, this time round a green for sure and not so sure what the other little fella is yet.

Today's a storm day, course that doesn't mean anything to us UNLESS the power goes out.  Good old wood stove goes into overdrive then.  Big storm, I would hope to kiss a duck.  We are one house back from the ocean, so don't have to worry bout the storm surges getting to us, that they are calling for.  Phew!  Jo's just praying the power stays on, as she's MOST definitely not a fan of the dark and Lou's away.

We still have some sticky buns here waiting on new homes.  Course they are a little more expensive than the types you buy in the bakery, but much more loveable.  It's a really big chore if Jo just wants to change the water, as she goes near their house and that's it, they are glued to the front door, just waitin their chance to escape to play. Have to ever tried to feed linnie babies with lovebirds hanging down the front of your face, under your glasses, down your shirt, you always have the one trying to help preen the baby being fed, then you have the guy trying to scab the formula.  Oh it is a ball!!  Jo keeps saying she's gonna get Lou to take a picture, but procrastinates this event as she does not like her picture in print!!  We promise to get you some more pictures today though.

Now the sad news.  We have some pairs leaving us.  Yes, Jo says it's time to downsize again.  She has found wonderful homes for Brooke and Dhillon, Tyler and Taylor, Homer and Honey, and lastly Courtney and corky.  Now to find homes for these sticky buns and she'll be back on solid ground!!  Says she is just much too busy and that upsets her when she feels she does not have proper time to dedicate to all.

Good old Soloman and Sophie though. Those two never complain and are just so loveable.  They don't squawk for attention, they are just pleased to be allowed to play out all day and get whatever attention Jo has time to give them.  Right now with the wood stove going, Jo won't take them to the main part of the house, but says she is really looking forward to the warm weather this year to take them all around.  Now that Sophie has come around and wants to be with Jo and Soloman, you'll see Jo all summer with a permanent fixture on each shoulder!  She has harnesses for them, so now if the bugs can stay away, they can even visit the big outdoors.
