September has arrived,
kids are going back to school and Christmas is on the way! Oh
how the time flies. Seems like just yesterday we were
taking the decorations down.
Maggie, Sport, Buddy, Tiki (senegals)
are all in their new homes, as are the lovebirds. See Tiki
and Maggie below here snuggling up with their new parents.
They were just adorable babies. Very happily playing on
their own and just as happy to see anyone come to visit them, so
they could hop onto the shoulders and greet them with snuggles.
We have two new little female
baby senegals we are feeding, along with four baby lovebirds.
One of the pure white lovebird (creamino whiteface) ladies is still available are as
the two senegals. We have a customer waiting, but he
wishes a little boy, so both these ladies will be looking for
new Moms and Dads in the coming months.
The football player here would
be Jesse. He starts high school this year and has made the
team. Seems like just yesterday he was starting
kindergarden!
As you probably
noted on our
Eagle Has Landed Page, our pond
has been put to good use! Jo is still trying to find
out where the parent's nest is and hoping the baby eagle made
his way back to them.
Hahns are a hatching!
Four babies hatched to Belledonna and Guiseppe this week.
They are being wonderful parents.
We are pleased to say our
Healthy Bird On Line Catalog is finally up and running! We
hope you like the new design and the many new features
available. Jo will be continually updating it with product
information and articles as time permits her. Now that we
have this pretty much completed, we are in the process of
expanding our store. Seems we are continually running out
of room!

We are now feeding Belladonna's crew of babies pictured above.
The facial expressions and the eyes on these guys is just
adorable. I may be bias, but I am convinced they are
just so intelligent at only 2-3 weeks of age, the way they look
at me! Bonita and Peppe have three hatched so far (fourth
should be making the grand entrance today) and so far are being
excellent parents. Jo has been having continual visions of
last year and knowing what is in store and coming soon!
Eight velcro hahns babies glued to her. Hahns are such
loveable birds, they live to be loved and love you. To
date we have never had a hahns with a nasty or indifferent
disposition or I might add a nippy one. We have read and
heard they "can" be, but we have not raised any yet! (knock on
wood as they say!) One very important tidbit of
information is DO NOT SPOIL YOUR NEW HAHNS BABY. By that
we mean run and get them out of the cage if they are hollering
for attention. That is the single worst mistake you can
make. You are in fact teaching them if they hollar they
will get attention and believe me, it would be hard to break
this habit if started. Our babies are NEVER given so much
as a glance of attention if they are hollering. Once they
are quiet and playing around the doors are opened and they then
cannot get to the door fast enough to get out. I remember
at one point last year 19 hahns in the house and you would never
have known we had one! Now mind you, it is completely
natural for them to have their calling sessions, normally about
5 minutes in the morning, maybe one in the afternoon and one at
bedtime. They are VERY short sessions but completely
natural. They do have to exercise their vocal cords!
We have one customer with two of our babies, that has a noisy
household, just due to the fact they never stop talking!!
Our two senegal ladies have
advanced to their beginner cage. They are at their "I'm
gonna get you tough girl stage" that all senegals go thru.
No one would ever imagine if seeing this, that they turn into
such loveable little ladies! Mouths are open, they are
gonna get you, .......you reach in to get them and they run for
cover!! But now next week at this time, they will probably
be over this stage and just the sweetest little gals going!
As an added note, Healthy Bird
will be in Fredericton next weekend at the Pet Expo, please drop
by and visit us.
